Sounds like an unusual and exciting setlist then   :(

Though Liege and Lift sounds good, would that have been in collaboration with Otis Redding then  ;D

JUst to confirm that PJ Wright is the support act for the entire tour. His new album is superb! (It ought to be, it's been two years in the making....)

Another date was in the Cropredy programme....

St Albans has a real ale bar, all seating and a car park you can get out of in less than an hour. It depends how tribal your bit of Tribal Essex is, I suppose. My bit of NW Essex to St A's is a doddle.

Why isn't this on the FC website yet?   There seem to be a lot of confirmed gigs out there!

Because they want to encourage folks out to see the acoustic tour - and if they publish the Wintour dates officially, people won't bother, and will just wait for the Wintour.

Title: Re: Winter Tour 2006 Dates
Post by: YaBB Master (Colin) on September 29, 2005, 09:26:56 AM
I don't know why the web site isn't showing more enthusiasm for promoting all of the gigs. The plans that I've heard for the two tours, are very differnet.

I assume that the Wintour will be the same as ever, however the 'Acoustic' tour sounds interresting. Gerry said that he was playing at every gig and they will be doing a lot of different material. (He was having to learn it.) Obviously things might have changed again, but it makes me want to catch the Autumn tour.

I've seen bands like the Levellers play acoustic with a drummer - in their case they stripped the kit down to a single snare-drum played standing up.

Reckon Gerry might do something like that?

Cheers

Nick

I wish they would post the wintour dates in full.. I like to know where I'm seeing them next and will always go to every one I can get to anyway..  I rang our usual Chesterfield venue for a date last week and they had no idea.. so they said..  getting worried now :o

I seem to remember that the wintour dates were always printed in the Cropredy programme.. I miss that.

Same over here. Every year we have some days off in February and I usually see 1 - 3 gigs of the wintour. I would like to book a flight NOW, because at the moment I just would pay 1,99 € per flight.

Because they want to encourage folks out to see the acoustic tour - and if they publish the Wintour dates officially, people won't bother, and will just wait for the Wintour.

There aren't any dates near me on the accoustic tour so the first chance I get is actually the wintour.  And actually I think you're making an assumption about what people would do if they had both options.   Its counter-productive anyway as the dates are being promoted by the venues so people just wonder why the website isn't up to date, which doesn't look great.

Just to clarify that it isn't my assumption, but my reading of why the band have decided not to put the dates on the website.

It ought to be mentioned that other artists also hold back dates for both this reason and/or until the whole tour is confirmed - this may also be Fairport's reason, of course.
Show of Hands fans regularly complain that dates are already sold out in advance of the dates appearing on their ebsite, for example.

22 Nov  Newbury; Corn Exchange  is about the nearest for me.  I also have tickets for the Anvil, but will think about going to Newbury,  as that would be the first time I would be seeing the Accoustic tour, and would increase the number of times I have seen Fairport by 25%.

There is always Sunday 19th at the Marlowe theatre Canterbury Jo, that's only 90 minutes away from you. It's a beautiful venue and you can be sure to meet Angela, Denis and Jack there, along with yours truly  :)

Presumably while the Palace is still in a state of "flux" the only alternative would be the Cliffs Pavillion: I suspect that that would not be a viable financial option for the chaps

Or maybe a trip round the M25 to St Albans. Saves the Dartford Crossing toll charges and keeps you safely north of the River ;). Has good real ale on draught, free covered-in parking next door. Will play host to humble self, Mrs M, Oakwood Graham, 2 other mates. Anna will surely be there.

Quite possibly - The Sage have short lead-ins on their tickets which generally only go on sale a month or so in advance.

Ring 'em back & ask to be put on their mailing list....that way, you'll find out in plenty of time.

Hi Jen,   Unfortunately in 2006 the Northampton gig will be on a Monday evening, unlike last time which was on a Saturday. Being a weekday, it will be more difficult for people to travel for a major gathering in Nuthouse's parish.
Perhaps somebody can come up with an alternative suggestion for a gathering ? Blackpool in February anyone ?

However...... if anyone who is going to be in Northampton especially during the day, let me know

I will be having the day off to have a beer or two down the Malt Shovel and it would be great to see some familiar (and new) faces.

Chris , you seem to have missed the point, as nice a place as Scarborough undoubtedly is, the gathering in question would take place prior to a FC winter tour gig and unless I'm mistaken, Scarborough is not on the winter tour itinerary in 2006.

Oh, it was Skegness, I was thinking of....just as awful in winter!
Glad you said that, not me, any Lincolnshire folk in ?  8)

Ideally the gathering would be on a Saturday, this would enable people to travel and possibly stay overnight.

Choices therefore would be;
4th Feb.Tunbridge Wells,
11th Feb.Cambridge,  (with Ashley's Rainbow Chasers) !
18th Feb. Norwich,
25th Feb.Gateshead,
4th March Skegness.

Or any alternative suggestions.  I'm looking for help here, AmyJen, Puggs, Nuthouse, Nick, Anji, Jude, Gower Flower, JJ, Mic, Big Dave,Folkie, forgive me if i've forgotten anyone, any thoughts or ideas ?

Oh, it was Skegness, I was thinking of....just as awful in winter!
Glad you said that, not me, any Lincolnshire folk in ?  8)

Ideally the gathering would be on a Saturday, this would enable people to travel and possibly stay overnight.

Choices therefore would be;
4th Feb.Tunbridge Wells,
11th Feb.Cambridge,  (with Ashley's Rainbow Chasers) !
18th Feb. Norwich,
25th Feb.Gateshead,
4th March Skegness.

The Cambridge gig would have been the best for us.. but as it's the day after our travellers return I think we'll be at home with them...  unless they don't want to be with us that is.....

The 18th we have a gig at Farnsfield...  Tunbridge Wells is ion my birthday... never been there.. will have to check the road atlas...  Gateshead's just up the road from us.. so a possibility.. but I suspect too far for most .....  Skeggy is the best option for us geographically...  but it's **** in the summer let alone in the winter....!!!! (With apologies to any Skeggyans.. but it is!!)..  But at least I'd get to see the sea!!!

I can only get to Northampton. I only get holidays the Friday before that and wasn't planning on travelling quite that far up north (Gateshead, eg).

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

We'll be half way to Applecross for the St Albans gig, and in Applecross for the Croydon gig.

Anyone else going to the Stables (not that it matters, looks like I'm going to be there anyway!)

May I put forward Tunbridge Wells or Cambridge for the group get-together gig - I might be able to make one of those if I start on the brownie points about now...

Of Skegness - any local info as to whether "Epsons", purveyors of (IMHO) the finest fissionchips on our fair soil are still where they used to be when we last played there. Truly gastronomical.
(And I've been to two of Rick Stein's Padstow joints so there...)

Mind you, It wouldn't been the first time I've spent long hours in a bus station, just the time of year that's a bit off-putting ::) it's me age

Simon,

I presume you mean "Eptons". Well, they're still in the phone book, so you have some hopes...

Eptons Ltd 33, High St, Skegness, Lincolnshire PE25 3NY Tel: 01754 763754

They may sell deep-fried Epson printers, but it seems unlikely. ;D

Certainly Shirley, consider yourself included.

It's beginning to look as though Cambridge is the most popular choice of the majority likely to attend a BIG gathering.

If the concensus of opinion is to have the BIG gathering in Cambridge, some may need overnight accommodation, therefore this site might be useful. http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/cambridge.html
It's possible we might be able to get a special group rate at one or more of these establishments.

This is the second time that they've played Celtic Connections - and they played the Renfrew Ferry two years ago in the acoustic guise.

I'm sure they played Dundee or Perth in the last few years too.

Yes we have seen them a few times up here - on the Renfrew Ferry (one of their best by far!), earlier this year at Balloch, in Edinburgh a couple of times and in Ayr some years ago (particularly bad night!) - oh and at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow too. There are usually a good few people at the gigs too! We are so delighted to see them in Scotland as for many years we have travelled to Yeovill to see them on the winter tour! ;D
Happy Days,

Clearly the answer is yes they have ... BUT NOWHERE NEAR OFTEN ENOUGH !!!

We used to get regular visits back in the seventies & even in the late eighties (I have particularly fond memories of a splendid gig in Kirkcaldy in 1989 - I think - with Maart waxing lyrical about playing in the Elbow Room folk club in his Bully Wee days) but in the last few years, since Chris & Gerry joined opportunities to see FC in Scotland have been far too few.

Looking forward to the visit to Celtic Connections though.

If you are looking for cheap accom, try the YHA. You don't have to be a youth (just as well - who said that ;D) or even a member now, so I understand. After the foot and mouth problems, they will take anyone's money.
