Title: Not The Radio 2 Folk Awards Post by: Nick on December 20, 2005, 08:57:27 AM The Hancocks 2006 Also known as Not The Radio 2 Folk Awards Ladies and Gentlemen, Talkawhile, the Folk Corporation Forum, is proud to present The Hancocks 2006. With these polls we celebrate the best folk music that we have seen and heard over the course of the last year. As you will know, The Hancock Awards are named in honour of our dearly loved and much missed friend and colleague Carey Hancock. Carey was long the life and soul of Talkawhile and a tremendous character of the folk scene. We are proud to commemorate his work through this board in these awards. The award categories are :- Folk Singer of the Year, Best Duo, Best Group, Best Album, Best Original Song, Best Traditional Track, The Horizon Award (for best newcomer), Musician of the Year, Best Live Act and All Round Good Egg Folkie. The winners of each category receive this fine stained glass trophy as a mark of their achievement: (http://www.itisyou.co.uk/hancock.jpg) They are most definitely Not the Radio 2 Folk Awards, though the categories may be a little familiar... ::) Four nominations were made in each category with a fifth nomination decided by the members of Talkawhile. For our own category, the All Round Good Egg Folkie, the Talkawhile members chose all five nominations. These results represent the collective opinion of the Talkawhile board members for 2006. They demonstrate that we, as a community, like our Folk music and we honour those who perform and play and contribute. |
