Title: Cave for Cropredy
Post by: Simon Care on October 16, 2005, 12:33:48 PM
Ok then so we are off the starting blocks. What we need now is for Cave to open up on the Friday or Saturday. This band would certainly blow the cobwebs away.

Check out their website www.cavetheband.co.uk

lets go Cave - frock on!

I guess as five of your six posts seem to be promoting Cave then your agreement was pretty obvious

Jane Delawney is a reference to the folk-rock band Trees, so it's definitely a pseudonym.

Isn't it an all about Eve song...Garden of Jane Delawney :)
"Jane Delawney had her dreams
But she never did discover
For the flow that feeds the stream
Is the lifeblood of her lover"

It was the title track of Trees second Album written by T. Boshell (whom I think was Bias Boshell, the bass guitarist) in 1970 so I expect All about Eve did a cover version

Yet to hear Cave, so maybe Croppers would be a good place to start.

Thought from the title of this thread that someone had another big-screen style suggestion for keeping the rain off!

I completely misread that!  Wondered why you were addressing "St Billy"  And why a gig in London would be easy to get to from Liverpool...  :-[  Try again, Anna!  ::)

I noticed advertised in this years Cropredy programme that Cave are playing at next years Croma "Folk On the Pier"

That sounds like fun!
Drunk folkies on a pier may be a bit dangerous though!haha ;)

Just listened to the available downloads of the cave website - Have to admit at first listen they don't grab me... Losing Elizabeth being the better of the two tracks.

Interesting type of Indi-Folk though I suppose. IS the singer from Manchester? He looks like it!  :P  Not keen on his voice. Still, good luck to them! Maybe we will see them at croppers.

... and so it turned out to be. What a good night.... tucked away in the nether regions of Northampton Cave played a set last night that was fantastic. I am afraid that I do not go to gigs and write down set-lists - so I can't help you there. Describe Cave, may come the cry - the easiest way to do this is to make comparisons though I am not sure that this would do the band justice.

Let me say this...   with Guy Fletcher and Simon Care playing the first reaction may be that these two would be carrying the rest of the band....not a bit of it...  great playing from every part of the stage.

So Cave for Cropredy ? - is there a petition to sign ?  8)

I also went and watched cave at the labour club in northampton. Their a band that makes people look and listen. At the labour club no one seemed to be enjoying the band surporting Cave, but as soon as cave hit the stage the atmosphere changed and up lifted.
Cave seem to have there own style and people need to accepted that and not try and label them, i wouldnt say they are indie, but more nu folk rock.
I was at cropredy lthis year and was amazed to hear there songs being playied during the breaks and being sold in the record tent. I think they are getting going, and they should deffantly play at cropredy, they would astound people and get people moving!!! ;) ;D

Hi Nuthouse,
Good to see you there. I have, as has Guy, tried very hard to be part of Cave, as opposed to being ornamental guests. I am very glad you enjoyed the gig.
The support band were invited as, believe it or not, they beat Cave to win The Northampton Battle of the Bands comp. There is no justice at all.
They seem to have the knack of writing great songs and their respect for the great and the good of the Frock world is immense.

So, as Greg and Fingers o'Neill would say, FROCK ON!

I was chatting to Neil (?) and he mentioned that Cave had some second to Still Life - all I can say is that the beer that the judges has must have been mindblowing !

I will certainly look out for more Cave gigs - and will probably make the Spitz gig in December as well.

They deserve to get to Cropredy..... I really hope they do get there. I confess to going along as Jane Delawney was singing Cave's praises and you've nothing to loose at a free gig have you ? I am glad i did and I look forward to shaking Jane's hand and saying thank you.

See this band !!!

Its Brendan O'Neill.
I also believe that The Spitz gig has been cancelled due to the venue trying to move the date and Cave not being available on the newly offered date.

For anyone interested Greg is playing at The Telegraph Public House in Moulton, Northampton in about 45 minutes time with his acoustic trio 'That Girls Name'.....????? He has formed it to play some of his slower stuff. It features Acoustic guitars from Greg and Gareth Warren (e2k) and a young lady on cello, whose name i can't remember hence the name of the trio.

Morrisey? The Happy Mondays? New Order?  Or maybe Anthony Wilson?

Dunno mate.  Maybe they look like you?  Or me.  Or him (or her, of course)

Confused too,

Ana

B*gger... somehow a couple of Badgers Champions and a few ports would put me on the wrong side of Peel and his Boys & Girls (rightly so, I add)

Shame about the Spitz but there will be others - keep us posted.   ;)

I went and watched Greggs side band 'that girls name' and i must say they are rather good for only being together a few months. The night was chilled out and i think of what i could see most of the people watching enyjoyed it:) I 'think'  That girls name is playing at northampton folk club soon, will have to find out:)
I do prefer Cave to That girls name, but they are different styles.  {:-)

Saw Cave last saturday supporting Loscoe State Opera at the Musicians in Leicester. They get my vote.

And while we are on the subject, Loscoe get a big vote for Cropredy as well.

Cor Crikey, I got a mention on LSO's website, for playing in a folk club in Oakham

Must have been during my 'lost Northamptonshire period' when I lived in a blot on the A6 called Desborough.

Blimey! ::) :o :o

I shall email them at once and find out what I was up to
