John Bramwell and the Full Harmonic Trio in Chester last night.

Just the most wondrous gig - musically, practically, everything.  John knows how to write a beautiful song - every single one of his can touch the heart in a very special way and some of them, oh my God...

If the trio are in your neck of the woods (and they are) don't miss out...

I  saw him in Oxted a few weeks ago. I didn't think he was anything special, but most of the audience loved the show.

Via Ray Cooper ?(Chopper);Ron Kavanagh, on May 4th.  Lips Sealed

Sad to hear this. RK was a great songwriter and always good value live. His "Young Ned of the Hill" was always a highlight of Pogues live shows

The second one, is now here, fresh from the manufacturor.
Number three, the Little Johnny England double CD, will complete the set (completes the day's events, 1 March 2003).
Likely here by late May or early June!

Why image 2 and 3 end up so small, I don't know. You get the drift, I am not very tech.

RIP Steve Albini.

Producer of albums by Nirvana, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Page & Plant, and many more.

Described himself as a "recording engineer" rather than a "producer". Used organic and old-school recording methods wherever possible. Kept a grounded ethic by working on recordings for a set fee rather than royalties as uninterested in the greater machine of the music industry.

An outspoken sonic guru, provocative, always had something interesting to say about the current state of music. The kind of auteur who held opinions you wouldn't necessarily agree with, but would defend his right to hold.

Another interesting and talented character leaves us...going to listen to PJ Harvey's "Rid Of Me" album in his honour.

Musician and producer (although he hated the term), Steve Albini. List of credits too long to mention.

Not a surprise he had been ill for several years, but a sad loss.

In the 90's Alias Ron Kavana were just about the most exciting act on the folk club scene. Almost joined the Pogues on more than one occasion apparently.
The Cropredy set was Great. He also did the first Swarbaid

The '91 Cropredy was just about the perfect one for me.  I've seen lots of acts at Cropredy I enjoyed more but it held together really well over the day and half.  Really cohesive lineup (which must have cost about 2% of what the current ones do).  And that Fairport set was one for the ages.

Now I am living nearby I took myself and Lady W to the wonderful Fleece in Bretforton to see the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc - a trio with Shetland, Swedish and Norwegian fiddler.

Brilliant - especially hearing a virtuoso of the Hardanger close up. The kind of band that would have graced Cropredy a few years ago.
