Just found another morsel from Sweden on the same tour. "Walk Awhile", Ferry Over The Baltic" & "Tam Lin".  Smiley

Further investigation reveals that they are a legitimate US re-issue label who have released vintage studio sets by Loudon Wainwright III, Blood Sweat & Tears and Mama Cass amongst many others and they are also responsible for the Dick's Picks range of Grateful Dead archive live albums which are officially sanctioned by the band so it does not sound as though they are into dodgy licensing. Quite the reverse in fact.

Edit: Have just noticed that they are also the label responsible for the recent excellent reissues of the McGough & McGear album and Nils Lofgren's solo debut.

I have several Real Gone releases -all excellent in terms of music, presentation etc. They are also linked with the Second Disc website -which is highly recommended as a source of interesting information on re-issues.

There's a naughty copy of this about. Matty is great....listen to Simon go.

What do we think about the comment that it sounds speeded (sped?) up - not sure myself but Simon and Swrab's voices seem a little high?

Hopefully the CD will be speed-corrected.

I      d    o        h   o   p   e      s   o !  Wink

I had a 7" single of "Ballroom Blitz" that was definitely mastered at the wrong speed! Not quite "Pinky & Perky" vocals, but not far off!

If it is mastered at the wrong speed, there are tools like Goldwave that can be used to correct it.

True, but you'd hope that any mastering company worth its salt would do that bit for you.

The trouble is with recordings like this, there isn't really a 'right' speed....there's an approximation of what it might be, but it's hardly a precise science.  Just put 2 Deadheads in a room arguing about one of their old tape recordings that has just been digitised and see what happens...  All our ears (and brains) are different.

I guess, on the assumption that the instruments were properly in tune at the time of the recording (not necessarily a safe assumption, of course!!), the correct speed is the one at which the pitch of everything is where it should be.

If in doubt then "concert pitch" is a pretty good standby.

Yeah, if the original key is known of any particular track (by perhaps asking a band member), then just correct it to that key if necessary.

30-sec samples now on Amazon; mp3 download available... £5.99  CD out next week £13.81

Sound doesn't come over well, admittedly on little laptop speakers... Mason's Apron as fast as I've ever heard it played! I don't think that's a pressing/recording problem, as the other songs appear to be at the right tempo.

The version of 'The Journeyman's Grace' on this album gets going faster than I'm used to as it goes along. Perhaps they had an especially high level of energy that evening.

Well, it's release day, and so as you'd expect, the price has come down:-

My copy has just arrived. I have not listened yet but it has full sleevenotes including new interviews with Simon and Peggy and pictures supplied by Peggy and full credits and permissions everywhere, all of which gives the lie to any notion that this is an unauthorised release.

Really looking forward to giving it a spin and hearing some pyrotechnic Swarb in a few minutes.

Sorry to double post but, having now listened, I can confirm (as somebody has already observed about an unofficial release of this material), it rocks! It is indeed the rockingest set ever released under the Fairport banner (imo but by some considerable distance). Shame it isnt longer. Shame there is no Sloth but in all other respects it is absolutely bloody great!
