Title: A canal boat called Matty Groves...
Post by: LadyD (Sarah) on March 02, 2009, 03:38:37 PM
My dad told me the other day he went to go see fairport convention with his friend and the friend got his canal boat signed by a member of fairport and the boat was called 'Matty Groves'.
Does anyone remember this?

(Turns out my dads a FC fan..who'd have thought it  :P)

I've also seen it in various places up and down the canals...

...there are several narrowboats named for Fairport and the FC family.

On the Grand Union.

It was decided to be the most central place in Britain during the Napoleonic Wars, so they built a barracks there, to be as far away from Napoleon as possible.

In Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery there is a machine that you can operate by hand, having paid a £ and inserted a one p piece. The machine flattens the 1p into a pattern of your choice - I made a canal boat.

To keep on topic I'll nip into the other room and call it Matty! ;D
