Saxophonist David Sanborn, age 78, from prostate cancer.
He played on everything from "Young Americans" to "Still Crazy After All These Years." I fondly remember when Sanborn was a regular Friday night addition to David Letterman's studio band, and occasionally took over when Paul Shaffer was elsewhere. (Of course, they always played "Young Americans" when he was present.) He was an incredibly tasteful player, and I will miss him.
Very sad. He played on so much great stuff from the 60s onward. One of my favourites is his unlikely appearance on the second album by German new wave band Nena which is called
?. He totally owns the title track and also the song Lass Mir Dein Pirat Sein.
