Tra, La, La, Laaaaaaaaa

NOMINATIONS UP, POLLS OPEN, GET VOTING

The winners of the Talkawhile nominations have been added to the polls.

The Polls are now open and will close on 1st February.

You can have 2 votes in each category.

The winners of the 2006 Hancocks will be announced after the voting closes.

Discussion is more than welcome, generally here and for specific nominees in the appropriate category threads, but posts that say little beyond 'Vote for X' will be deleted.

We want reasons. Be eloquent. Be persuasive. Lobby for your favourites. Turn others on to them.

Remember who the awards are named after - argue like a Ces, make us laugh, make us cry, be passionate, to make your favourite the winner.

Go forth and lobby...... :) :) :)

Sandra

Mods/Referees - just thought you ought to know...  When I cast my vote for Best Group, it showed the results so far.  As none of the other categories did this I assume you (quite rightly) don't want this to happen.

Sorry if anyone was watching the progress of their favourite band there...

Sorry if anyone was watching the progress of their favourite band there...

Thanks for that. It's been fixed.  ;D

All I can say is that a lot of the categories are like best band, where two entries are very close together.

Which probably means I've voted for the one in third place in most of them as well then.  ::)

What's happened to the Hancocks 2005..?

The person who was organising them has completely disappeared and we've had to start from scratch, again.
This time it will happen. The 2006 awards will be ready in the next week and posted out to those doing the presenting. Then I'll think what to do about the 2005's.

I have the 2006 awards  ;D  and very handsome they are.

The certificates will be printed today and then we will start to organise presentations.

Last chance to comment.

Here is an example of the certificate. It will be printed on pale gold parchment like paper and mounted in the frame. The final version is 1.75" x 2.25".
The black border isn't visible once mounted.

We got an on-air thanks from Mark Radcliffe and Eliza Carthy, last night on Radio 2  ;D
It nice to know that they are enthusiastic to receive their awards.

I think we'll have to keep our eyes open for Eliza gigs.

Wow, that was close.

What a shame, I would have been the first to volunteer to present the award to Oysterband at their own festival - and I would have fought very hard!

Congratulations to Bellowhead though, well deserved.

I would have fought you for that honour at the Big Session AnnieD . -------Right -who wants a fight for the Bellowhead award presentment-?
Both worthy candidates.     --

You should know that nobody - nobody! - would ever dare try to take that honour away from our Landlady, Sandy!

She plans to award each member personally  :)

Sod it, I was sorted to give Show of Hands their 2005 Hancock   :'( ;)

Ah who cares, all the best to the 2006 winners (sniff) and to those taking pics (probably that Chris Bates) , awarding trophies (not me  >:() or just attending the presentations (hope I can but even if not doesn't that sound grand  :o)

At the end of the day Ces would be proud and thats the point. I'll be looking out to see if I can see one awarded in person.

thanks again to all for arranging this

Please volunteer to present a trophy! Please come and take pictures!

These awards are for Talkawhile and from Talkawhile so please look at the Awards thread and see how you can get involved.

Yes mate, there's about 130,000 of them.  ;D ;)

I'll be there I reckon, catch me early as it's going to be a long night of merriment. I'm looking forward to hearing your presentation speech so's I can nick some ideas for mine when I get to do the honours for Mawkin.  :).

Yes, it is.

Not sure when or where yet. Need to talk to Bellowhead. Expect something of a repeat of the Boden and Spiers presentation, if Nick and I can remember what we said (I lost my bit of paper that I scribbled on!)

Post by: Nick on March 28, 2006, 10:50:37 AM
I doubt it will be presented on-stage though, sadly. The hall will be absolutely stuffed for the concert, we will be running around like blue backsidedd flies getting the bands off and on stage etc and a presentation then would be logisitcally impossible. The most likely times will be during a gap in the programme between the afternoon concerts (Waterson:Carthy headlining) and evening concerts (when Bellowhead headline) or alternatively in the Cellar Bar after the gig.

My preference would be the Cellar Bar because its a rocking venue and a good chance to let the hair down [;-) (actually that should be  8) because I can't wear the fez in there, the ceiling is too low!)

Cheers

Nick

Actually, I should think on stage will be the only place, indeed ideal. It's the only place all the Bellowhead supporters will be able to see it happen!.

The Cellar (though it is a great venue) is likely to be far too crowded, if last year is anything to go by, and last year we had half the attendance we have this. There may also be band members (with, for example, new infants) who might not want to be hanging about after the gig...

...however I think this is all just a big scheme for you to get away with not wearing your fez  ;D, poor thing...it's tassel will go all tangly in disappointment  :'(.

They are the first of, I think, 4 Bellowheadeans who will produce infants over the course of this summer.

The band will be supplementing their management team with a nanny and mobile creche facilities  ;D

Pete's mum mentioned on Monday that the mum-to-be was sent home from hospital and is still waiting...

More awards ready to award...

Very nice reviews and photos of Barry presenting to Chris and Julie - that looked like an excellent occasion.

Still looking for photos of Martin Simpson's award Jackdaw! and also of Mawkin being presented. Did you guys take any pics?

AdrianW is now lined up to present to Richard Thompson at Wickham and David Stevenson will be presenting to Mike Harding at Cambridge. That leaves Eliza (still!!) and John Tams to receive their awards.

Anyone else interested in helping out with presenting these?

Cheers

Nick

Ok, We need to arrange for the right gig though. Our plans fell through on the last Ratcatchers tour-ette unfortunately so we'll need to be a bit more prepared this time. Eyes peeled for a suitable opportunity.

I will be presenting Mike Harding with his Good Egg Folkie Award at Cambridge next weekend.  Specific time still to be agreed, but any TW'ers in attendance will be welcome to help make the area look busy.

I got talking to RT's road manager at Ascott on Friday & mentioned the award from this board. After he discussed it with RT, he didn't see a problem (RT had heard about it but wasn't quite sure what the detail was), but did ask us to approach RT directly through his overall manager, Tim Bernett in the USA with all such details.

Everyone happy that I do this? I thinkl Adrian is on his hols & won't get to read this. I'm almost certain to be there & can call his mobile in advance if needs must.

I'm having a week's absence from holiday this week, but will be away and largely uncontactable from the weekend.

There appears to be a degree of confusion here. I've had an email discussion with RT (or at least somebody writing over his signature), copied to TB, with the result that I'm supposed to track RT down at Wickham and pass the Hancock over a cup of something. The opening email to the Beekeeper had a fair amount of background information.

If Chris makes alternative, preferably more public, arrangements, he'll have to find me at Wickham and prize the Hancock away.

I thought you were already on your hols, Adrian - I apologise for not putting thast in my post.

I have no intention of going over your head, and what we agreed by private email still stands! As I thought you were on holiday, and unable to do as RT / Simon Tassano requested (they may not be aware that TB was copied into your correspondence), I posted their request here to see if anyone knew more. You did, and posted.

As you have corresp[ondence already from RT, I'll drop it. No harm done.

Eliza & the Ratcatchers are playing there.

They still need awarding to.

I was on holiday last week (The Wickerman), am back this, then away again.

I've no problem with Chris sticking an oar in to check that arrangements are in hand for RT to get his Hancock at Wickham. The important thing is that he gets it, not who gives it.

Furthermore, as I was cowardly and arranged a private presentation, I've no objection to Chris arranging and performing a public one, other than my selfish wish to meet RT.
