Farewell to a poor man's son, could have potentially spoilt my favourite album

Whereas I love that song so much that I once asked Swarb to help me make out some of the lyric that I couldn't quite hear.

What is it with people not liking this song?  It was one of my candidates for a favourite song by a non-member!

Maybe if we had a bit more exposition on the subject(s) we might have a slightly better idea of why?  Fez

Well, to me, it just sums up everything that people seem to dislike about latter day Fairport. It's twee and tedious and...well, I just don't like it. (On the other hand I can't understand why people dislike Rosie or Night Time Girl, I love both)

Love on a Farmboy's Wages.

What on earth possessed them to cover that XTC song? Sorry, but it has me hitting the FF button every time.

It is not a terrible cover though, just a bit pointless.

No, I have to disagree with you there Gub. I've just listened to the XTC original and have remembered that I do actually quite like it. Not my fave XTC song but still pretty good. But Ric's fiddle playing on the FC version ruins it and it doesn't suit Simon's voice. Just my opinion.

Chacun a son gout, I guess.  There are songs in the FC canon I could describe as twee and tedious, but Travelling By Steam definitely isn't one of them!

Uke Central - simply no excuse

I haven't really listened to the last few CDs, so I can't comment on more recent releases, but I'm with David on this one.

This is the most dire thing ever recorded - probably by anybody ever!

Comedy gold.
You are pulling our collective legs aren't you?
Of all the many stinkers in the FC canon, you picked one of the four pillars of Fairport.!!
If you are serious I weep for you.
