Fairport Towers (Simon) have asked if we can help.

Someone who has been described as an obsessive Fairport fan has died and his brother in law (Chris) is trying to sort out the masses of CDs, albums, t-shirts, programmes, etc. However he has no idea what's what.

I have explained that most of it is probably clutter, but he wants anything that would be treasured by somebody else to find a good home.

All of this stuff is in Garsington, near Oxford, but only until next Wednesday. It might be all a complete set of re-issued CDs, or just maybe early, mint, first pressings. I have no idea.

As a first step is there anybody in the area who could go and use their Fairport knowledge to sort through it.

I have a colleague who lives in Garsington. Maybe I could ask her if she could drop in and take some photos of it? Then maybe people here could have a look. Otherwise, I could try and get out there to have a look myself but I'm pretty pushed for time over the next week so not sure if I'd be able to make it before Wednesday.

Thanks Mike.
I think we'll make a call at the end of the day. More than one person might be a good idea.

On this time scale I think we need to just make a box of the best and sort it out later. Maybe a group effort.

Chris (the brother in law) is far more worried about throwing out something that could find a loving home, than anythings value.

I would suggest if we identify anything really rare, we advise the family to hang on to it and trade it themselves.
(eg a mint+, first pressing of 'Sandy', 'AT2/The Boot' CD box)

Things that have some value we list, people here could grab and make a donation to TCT. (Distributed at Cropredy or something.)
(Old t-shirts, complete sets of programs, less than mint LPs, etc.)

Things of personal interest, but no real value, or too tedious to list. Anybody helping can have.
(eg the 1986 Cropredy programme that's missing from your set.)

So please we will need a few volunteers to do this:

I think Jude, somebody with a camera and somebody you can be fairly ruthless would be a great combination.
(Somebody would also have to store this stuff while we list it.)

I've got some time free this weekend & am, in Oxford anyway (Folk Weekend tickets)

Also have a camera....but I'm pretty sure I know most of what'll rare....if he was an obsessive (and it will be a 'he'!) it's likely that there will be a lot of rare stuff.

Willing to go.

Great  Grin
I think Tony, Jude and Chris would be a great team.

I'll PM you all later, with Chris (brother in law)'s contact information and see if you can organise a convenient time.

And everybody else keep watching, because there will be more to do and I'd like to spread it out as a little each.

There's a TV prog in this.
If  Jude and Chris could arrive in classic cars, ideally wearing scarves and tweed , Tony arrives as a roundhead and then they try and sell fc memorabilia at an auction!!!
Now all it needs is a title......... answers on a post card please.

Jude, you are absolutely right. I hadn't read the first 2 posts and my response was flippant and thoughtless. I can only apologise. David

Update:

All the memorabilia and CDs have now been collected by the Friends of Fairport and will be for sale on the FOF stall at Cropredy (top of the stage field).

All money raised by the sale of these items will be given to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The family of the late owner of this collection are extremely happy with this solution to their dilemma of how to make sure it went to people who understand what it is to be a Fairport fan and I hope people will be happy to buy it and raise money for a good cause.. Grin
