Title: Help with a 'slip jig'
Post by: Greg E on September 13, 2023, 10:18:01 AM
Hi all

A while back I posted on Youtube a set of jigs that Steeleye performed live. There are 3 tunes:  Bank Of Ireland (Robbery With violins) / A Slip Jig / Wild Irishman (actuall O'Roukes but it s a long story going back to 1936!)

Anyway, I have never been able to identify the Slip Jig in the middle, and someone I know is convinced Fairport have used it, can any one identify the middle tune??!!

cheers

That fine old Irish tune, the cow that are the blanket.

I have to respectfully disagree Jim - anywhere I've looked the Cow that Ate the Blanket is a double jig.  I'll keep looking for the slip jig cos it's familiar to me and it's annoying me now...

Touche, Stevie
I thought it was something my dad made up, I've never heard "the cow" until a minute ago.
It's always nice to hear Barney

I forgot to say though - that's half the job done, but any takers on the Fairport link?

It's still possible  - the problem is someone would need to know it, cos the name's not going to come up in their track titles
