Here is the draw for the first round of the 2010 FC Cup (names picked out of a hat in the traditional manner). Games to be played between 13 & 15 July.

Group A

Rising For The Moon v The Five Seasons
Unhalfbricking v Bonny Bunch Of Roses
Full House v Angel Delight
Rosie v Nine
Tipplers Tales v Jewel In the Crown
Gladys Leap v The Wood & the Wire

Group B

Expletive Delighted v A Sense of Occasion
Fairport Convention v XXXV
Babbacombe Lee v Who Knows Where The Time Goes
Gottle O Geer v Over The Next Hill
What We Did On Our Holidays v Red & Gold
Liege & Lief v Heyday (making up the numbers)

Top four in each group go through to the quarter finals based on numbers of goals (votes).

Edit: Top idea. I've moved it to a new topic and put in the groups.Colin

From the pools panel at Kirk Central, eschewing trying to predict a result for teams that I'm not overly familiar with. Perhaps a couple of surprise results there, but we'll have to see how the rest of the voting goes before drawing any firm conclusions. Mainly home wins, the cup's traditional whipping boys GOG aside, and although a strong effort from some of the more unfamiliar faces of Heyday, there was only really going to be one winner there. A cup upset seems unlikly for plucky Tippler's Tales, up against some very strong opposition although as you can see, an early lead has been established based on the romance of the cup. The heard it first factor weighing in heavily there. In the battle of the minnows, Expletive came off strongly against SOO, however I can see this being a close-run match over the next three days or so. The Full House v. Angel Delight game looks like the one to watch, and with some very strong sides already drawn against each other, I can see one of the unfancied sides maybe even making it as far as the quarter finals this year. Tough draw in some places.
Always liked Tippler Tales, but it doesn't stand up against Jewel in the Crown.
Never 'got' Over the Next Hill and for all its faults Gottle O Geer has a couple of classic tracks.
Shame no 'Old, New, Borrowed, Blue'.

Some tricky decisions there.  A couple that could have gone either way (Holidays, Rising) and one where a pin was employed (Gottle) as I don't like either but in the main the expected heavyweights have come out on top.

BTW, given that there aren't sixteen matches, how does the competition arrive at a final two?  is it like the actual FA Cup where certain albums only arrive in later rounds?

Sorry Colin, I didn't think of that one. I was trying to restrict it to studio albums and ONBB is predominantly live.

Yo may have spotted a flaw in the organisation!  Embarrassed Quick rethink. I shall employ a group system as follows:

Group A

Rising For The Moon v The Five Seasons
Unhalfbricking v Bonny Bunch Of Roses
Full House v Angel Delight
Rosie v Nine
Tipplers Tales v Jewel In the Crown
Gladys Leap v The Wood & the Wire

Group B

Expletive Delighted v A Sense of Occasion
Fairport Convention v XXXV
Babbacombe Lee v Who Knows Where The Time Goes
Gottle O Geer v Over The Next Hill
What We Did On Our Holidays v Red & Gold
Liege & Lief v Heyday (making up the numbers)

I understood that Old, New, Borrowed and Blue, Live Convention and Farewell Farewell got a first round bye and that Before Your Time, despite not officially being a FC album would also come in at the second round (in the same way that Swansea and Cardiff play in the FA Cup).
I especially look forward to Simon Nicol's cup predictions...  Grin
Perhaps we should have him, Peggy and Swarb on a couch commenting on the results as they come in on a special programme hosted by Adrian Chiles.

Before Your Time would have to face a playoff against House Full first. Perhaps it is best to stick to the group system this season and revise the eligibility rules for 2011!

Group A

Rising For The Moon v The Five Seasons - not the most entertaining match
Unhalfbricking v Bonny Bunch Of Roses - a hard won contest
Full House v Angel Delight - only because Poor Will was playing
Rosie v Nine - a walkover despite Big William own goal
Tipplers Tales v Jewel In the Crown - surprise upset, Jack Orion scores a hat trick
Gladys Leap v The Wood & the Wire - a narrow victory

Group B

Expletive Delighted v A Sense of Occasion - another fairly dull fixture
Fairport Convention v XXXV - there's life in the old boys yet
Babbacombe Lee v Who Knows Where The Time Goes - an easy victory
Gottle O Geer v Over The Next Hill - GoG never looked likely to score
What We Did On Our Holidays v Red & Gold - no surprise there
Liege & Lief v Heyday - not the drubbing that was predicted

Why not just award the trophy to L&L now?  It should be taken out of the competition and given an honorary title.  Meanwhile...

Group A

Rising For The Moon v The Five Seasons
Unhalfbricking v Bonny Bunch Of Roses
Full House v Angel Delight
Rosie v Nine
Tipplers Tales v Jewel In the Crown
Gladys Leap v The Wood & the Wire

Group B

Expletive Delighted
v A Sense of Occasion
Fairport Convention v XXXV
Babbacombe Lee v Who Knows Where The Time Goes
Gottle O Geer v Over The Next Hill but just barely
What We Did On Our Holidays v Red & Gold
And, of course, Liege & Lief v Heyday
